The Evergreen: A New Season in the North, Volume IV

The Evergreen, a unique anthology in 4 volumes from Edinburgh’s Old Town, revisits a 400-year old tradition that sparked the Evergreen anthologies of Allan Ramsay and Patrick Geddes, inspiring a civic and cultural revival within Edinburgh and beyond. After 120 years, it’s back!

The final volume in the series breaks with the Evergreen tradition of Allan Ramsay and Patrick Geddes by featuring only female contributors: editorial, prose fiction and non-fiction, poetry and illustration.

There’s a bonus. We are delighted that our Guest Editor for this volume, Lucy Ellmann, was shortlisted for this year’s Man Booker Prize for her novel, Ducks, Newburyport.

The contributors are:

Monica Datta / Janet Dick / Elizabeth Elliott / Lucy Ellmann / Helena Fornells / Kylie Grant / Joyce Guthrie / Ellen Hair / Anjum Hasan / Judith Hertog / Astrid Jaekel / Kristen Lowman / Lesley McAra / Catherine Marshall / Lila Masumoto / Chiara Organtini / Petra Reid / Suzy Romer / Effie Samara / Alice Tarbuck / Rafaela Taylor / Maria Vlachou / Phoebe Weller / Shelagh Wright

To complement this volume, twelve women artists were enlisted to respond in their own way to the long tradition of stone carvings known as sheela-na-gigs. A limited edition print curated by award-winning illustrator, Astrid Jaekel, is the stunning result: The Evergreen Sheela-Na-Gig.
